Wayward Ways
Pet Rocks are an ex-kiwi outfit who played to big audiences in NZ including The Big Day Out and supporting the likes of Elvis Costello, Pere Ubu and The Cruel Sea. They also had a hit single, Blunter Classics Vol.3, which is still played on NZ radio today! Now Sydney-based, the new incarnation of the group have been working the project up again behind the scenes. Now the proverbial beast is ready to be unleashed. The album is a wonderful mélange of smart pop with jazz and rock leanings, and impressively impressionistic lyrics. If you find things to dig in bands like Yo La Tengo, Steely Dan and Teenage Fanclub, you will find plenty to love here. Guest includes Cameron Emerson Elliott from Youth Group. The band will be launching the album in Sydney in late October, with interstate shows to follow.
