In 1975 Nigerian superstar, legend Fela Kuti - undoubtedly the hippest & best known African musician on the planet during the 70’s - did something extraordinary & offered the leadership of his Africa 70 band to his long time drummer Tony Allen. Fela, quoted as saying “he sounds like 4 drummers!” stepped back & gave Tony Allen ‘the reins’ to direct the flow of the mighty Africa 70, with those fierce arrangements.
